Activities

Our aim is for children to learn and to have fun. We believe that the two go hand in hand. As part of our planning, we ensure that there are a range of activities set-out for the children to enjoy every day which are linked to the seven areas of learning. We implement a varied mix of 'free flow' and ‘adult led’ activities which are intended to capture the imagination of children.
 

Free Flow Activities
The ‘free flow’ approach means that children are free to decide for themselves which activities they want to explore. This encourages independent decision making and means that each child can learn at their own pace and in a way which suits them. If they feel like painting, they can help themselves and paint away. If they want to play in the garden, they are able to do so. Or if they simply want to have some quiet time and look at a book in the library area, they are welcome to.

Typical ‘free flow’ activities that are set out for children every day include: arts and crafts, reading, dressing up, role play, music, maths, writing, sand and water trays and many more!

Adult Led Activities
We supplement this free flow approach by having an 'adult led' activity every other day which children can join in if they want to. Adult led activities are based around careful planning and are often linked to seasonal, cultural or other special events that occur throughout the year. 'Adult led' activities can also be based around specific learning areas such as ICT, which might require staff to give more support to the children. 

Typical daily 'adult led' activities for the children include: cooking, planting, card making, displays, beebot robots, parachute play etc.
